Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Jessie L. Bell (DOB 12–2‑1979) of 213 Monroe Street in Anna has been charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the death of an Anna man.   Anna Police were called to a Douglas Street residence at approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning.  An adult male was found on the ground outside the residence and was subsequently pronounced dead at the Union County Hospital.  The victim is James H. Morrison (DOB 10-28-1967) of Anna.

The case is under investigation by the Anna Police Department and Union County Coroner’s Office with assistance from the Illinois State Police and Union County Sheriff’s Office.  Bell was apprehended this afternoon by Illinois State Police in Johnson County.  He is currently in the custody of the Union County Sheriff and is being held without bail.

No additional information is being released at this time.

The Union County State’s Attorney’s Office reminds the public that charges are not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
