Second Man Charged with Murder of Anna Man
Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Travis D. Turner (DOB 12-11-1988) of 122 Southeast Front Street in Dongola has been charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the death of James H. Morrison (DOB 10-28-1967) of Anna. The charges result from an Anna Police and Illinois State Police investigation regarding Morrison’s death in the early morning hours of Saturday April 12. Morrison was found outside a Douglas Street residence at approximately 3:00 a.m. on April 12 and was pronounced dead a short time later at Union County Hospital. Turner is alleged to have struck Morrison with a piece of lumber.
Jessie L. Bell (DOB 12–2‑1979) of 213 Monroe Street in Anna is also charged with First Degree in connection with Morrison’s death. He is alleged to have struck Morrison repeatedly about the head with his fists on Saturday April 12.
Both defendants are set for First Appearance on Tuesday April 15 at 9:00 a.m. before Presiding Judge Mark Boie at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro. Turner is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $1,000,000 bond and Bell is held in the Jackson County Jail without bond.
Investigation continues by the Anna Police, Illinois State Police and Union County Coroner with assistance from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
The Union County State’s Attorney’s Office reminds the public that charges are not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
