Cobden Man Indicted for Aggravated DUI and Reckless Homicide

in Connection with Fatal Interstate 57 Crash

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Daniel J. Bible (DOB 08-29-1983) of 401 Appleknocker Street, Apartment 104, in Cobden, was indicted on Wednesday April 13 by a Union County Grand Jury on one (1) count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, a Class 2 Felony, one (1) count of Reckless Homicide, a Class 3 Felony, one (1) count of Driving While License Suspended, a Class A Misdemeanor and one (1) count of Endangering the Life or Health of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor.  The charges stem from a March 23, 2011 traffic crash on Interstate 57 that resulted in the death of an Anna man.

Bible was taken into custody on the evening of April 15, 2011 in Marion by Marion Police and Illinois State Police.  He is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail on $150,000 bond.  Bible is set for a First Appearance on Tuesday April 19 at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

The charges follow an investigation by the Illinois State Police, Union County State’s Attorney’s Office and Union County Coroner’s Office.

The Union County State’s Attorney’s Office reminds the public that charges are not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
