Villa Ridge Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Domestic Battery

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds, acting as special prosecutor in Pulaski County, announced today that William A. Kern (DOB 01-24-1979) of 301 Dakota Road, Villa Ridge in Pulaski County has been sentenced to three (3) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one (1) count of Aggravated Domestic Battery, a Class 2 Felony.  Kern was arrested after Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputies and Illinois State Police were called to Kern’s residence on the evening of May 17, 2011.  The charges were filed as part of a firearms investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Illinois State Police, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office, all operating under the FASTEN Task Force (Federal and State Trafficking Enforcement Network).

As a part of the plea agreement, Kern also pleaded guilty to one (1) count of Driving under the Influence, a Class A Misdemeanor.  Kern was arrested on the DUI charge by Illinois State Police on June 10, 2011 on Interstate 57 in Pulaski County.

The Union County State’s Attorney’s Office reminds the public that charges are not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
