Anna Man Pleads Guilty in Beating Death; Sentenced to 20 Years
Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Travis D. Turner (DOB 12/11/1988) of Dongola, Illinois has pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder in connection with the beating death of James H. “Jimmy” Morrison (DOB 10/28/1967) of Anna, Illinois. Turner was sentenced to twenty (20) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, the maximum sentence allowed under law for the offense of Second Degree Murder, a Class 1 Felony. Turner was arrested in April 2014 as part of an investigation by the Illinois State Police and Anna Police Department.
“Today’s outcome was the result of extensive discussions with Jimmy’s family. Mr. Turner will serve the maximum penalty for second degree murder and the same sentence received by the codefendant. It was the family’s desire to have closure and certainty regarding Travis Turner’s sentence. I admire their strength in dealing with such a tragic loss,” State’s Attorney Edmonds said.
“I would also like to thank the men and women of state and local law enforcement for their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Edmonds added.
