Jones­boro Man Sen­tenced to Prison for Domes­tic Battery

Union Coun­ty State’s Attor­ney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that James L. Smith (DOB 2/5/1986) of Jones­boro has been sen­tenced to three (3) years in the Illi­nois Depart­ment of Cor­rec­tions after admit­ting to a Peti­tion for Revo­ca­tion of Con­di­tion­al Dis­charge for the Orig­i­nal Offense of Domes­tic Bat­tery, a Class 4 Felony.  Smith will also serve a four (4) year term of Manda­to­ry Super­vised Release (for­mer­ly parole).  Smith was arrest­ed in Jan­u­ary 2016 fol­low­ing an inves­ti­ga­tion by Union Coun­ty Sheriff’s Deputies.  Smith plead­ed guilty to the orig­i­nal charge in April 2016.  In Jan­u­ary 2017, a war­rant was issued for his arrest for fail­ing to appear and he was sub­se­quent­ly arrest­ed in May 2017.  A Peti­tion for Revo­ca­tion of Con­di­tion­al Dis­charge was filed in May 2017 after he com­mit­ted a new offense dur­ing April 2017 in Jack­son Coun­ty, Illinois.
