Union County Sues State Over Late Payments

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Union County has filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois regarding late payments by the State to Union County government.  The suit, filed in the Circuit Court of Union County, names the Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Comptroller and seeks immediate payment to the Union County General Fund of funds already collected by the State of Illinois which are due and owing to the County under existing state law.  Since the start of the State fiscal year in July 2015, the State has failed to transfer tax money collected by the State to the County.  This transfer is mandated by state law to reimburse counties for the cost of employing certain elected and appointed officials.

The matter is set for an initial court date of January 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
