Jones­boro Man Sen­tenced to Prison for Fail­ure to Update Sex Offend­er Registration

Union Coun­ty State’s Attor­ney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Bran­don D. Grif­fin (DOB 12/24/1983) of Jones­boro has been sen­tenced to two (2) years in the Illi­nois Depart­ment of Cor­rec­tions after plead­ing guilty to one (1) count of Unlaw­ful Fail­ure to Report Change of Address, a Class 3 Felony.  Grif­fin failed to report that he had ceased to live at a res­i­dence in Jones­boro in accor­dance with the pro­vi­sions of the Sex Offend­er Reg­is­tra­tion Act, with the Chief of Police of Jones­boro or with the Union Coun­ty Sher­iff with­in three (3) days after he ceased to live at the fixed res­i­dence.  Grif­fin was arrest­ed in July of 2015 after an inves­ti­ga­tion by the Union Coun­ty Sheriff’s Office.  Grif­fin plead­ed guilty to Aggra­vat­ed Crim­i­nal Sex­u­al Abuse, a Class 2 Felony in Feb­ru­ary of 2010 which stemmed from sex­u­al acts com­mit­ted with a minor under the age of 17 between 2007 and 2009 at a Don­go­la res­i­dence.  Grif­fin was released from prison in Jan­u­ary of 2014 and was required to reg­is­ter as a sex offend­er upon his release.
