Duties & Responsibilities



The Union Coun­ty High­way Depart­ment is respon­si­ble for the design, con­struc­tion and main­te­nance of all Coun­ty roads.  The High­way depart­ment per­forms cul­vert instal­la­tions, oil & chip main­te­nance, pot­hole & sur­face repairs, snow & ice removal, mow­ing, main­te­nance of traf­fic con­trol devices and issues util­i­ty per­mits.  The High­way depart­ment is also respon­si­ble for the design con­struc­tion and main­te­nance of all Coun­ty bridges.  Union Coun­ty has approx­i­mate­ly 500 miles of road and 158 bridges.
