Jones­boro Man Sen­tenced to 48 Years For Sex­u­al Assault

Union Coun­ty State’s Attor­ney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Gre­go­ry F. McCord (DOB 05-20-1961), for­mer­ly of 200 East Hea­cock in Jones­boro has been sen­tenced to forty-eight (48) years in the Illi­nois Depart­ment of Cor­rec­tions for sex­u­al­ly abus­ing and tak­ing lewd pho­tographs of a young fam­i­ly mem­ber in 2006 and 2007.  In July of 2010 a Union Coun­ty jury found McCord guilty of one (1) Count of Aggra­vat­ed Crim­i­nal Sex­u­al Assault, a Class X Felony, four (4) Counts of Crim­i­nal Sex­u­al Assault, all Class 1 Felonies, one (1) Count of Child Pornog­ra­phy, a Class 3 Felony, and eight (8) Counts of Unlaw­ful Pos­ses­sion of Weapons by Felon, all Class 3 Felonies. Pre­sid­ing Judge Mark Boie hand­ed down the sen­tence Tues­day, Jan­u­ary 22, 2013 at the Union Coun­ty Cour­t­house in Jonesboro.

McCord was arrest­ed in Decem­ber 2007 as the Jones­boro Police Depart­ment and Illi­nois State Police exe­cut­ed a search war­rant at his home.  The case was pros­e­cut­ed by the Illi­nois Attor­ney General’s Office with assis­tance from the Union Coun­ty State’s Attorney’s Office.
