State’s Attorney and Sheriff Remind Public to Keep Children Safe this Halloween
Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds and Union County Sheriff David Livesay remind the public to review the Illinois Sex Offender Registry when planning Halloween trick-or-treat routes. Under Illinois law, any sex offender on parole or probation may not participate in any Halloween activity involving children. This would include leaving a porch light on, answering the door or distributing candy during trick or treat hours. There are currently 43 registered sex offenders living in Union County and parents may review the Illinois Sex Offender Register at http://www.isp.state.il.us/sor/ The Union County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a sex offender compliance check on Halloween.
