Ordinance Chapter: Chapter 9 - Courthouse Regulations [9-1]

Fail­ure to com­ply with the require­ments here­in shall be con­sid­ered a vio­la­tion of the Chap­ter result­ing in a fine of Five Hun­dred Dol­lars ($500.00)per occur­rence.  Addi­tion­al­ly, any vio­la­tion may result in addi­tion­al charges con­sist­ing of con­tempt pro­ceed­ings, a vio­la­tion of 720 ILCS 5/21–5, Crim­i­nal Tres­pass to State Sup­port­ed Land, a Class A Mis­de­meanor, or poten­tial­ly a vio­la­tion of 720 ILCS 5/19–1, Bur­glary, a Class 2 Felony depend­ing on the facts and cir­cum­stances of the violation.

After hour use of the Cour­t­house shall be lim­it­ed to Coun­ty busi­ness, i.e. Coun­ty Board Meet­ings, Coun­ty Infor­ma­tion­al Meet­ings, Coun­ty Board Com­mit­tee Meet­ings, and Grand Jury Pro­ceed­ings.  This Sec­tion shall not pre­vent after hour use of Coun­ty offices by Coun­ty office hold­ers and their staff.

The court­rooms are for court pur­pos­es only and shall only be used for Coun­ty busi­ness upon the approval of the Res­i­dent Cir­cuit Judge.

The Cour­t­house hours of oper­a­tion shall be from 8:00 A.M. to noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mon­day through Fri­day, except for legal hol­i­days estab­lished by the Coun­ty Board of Com­mis­sion­ers or as oth­er­wise direct­ed by the Res­i­dent Cir­cuit Judge and/or the Sher­iff.  Addi­tion­al­ly, the Cour­t­house may be open for oper­a­tion and use by the Coun­ty Clerk and Recorder on Sat­ur­days at pre-estab­lished times to pro­vide access for ear­ly vot­ing dur­ing the weeks pri­or to an elec­tion upon pro­vid­ing notice to the Sheriff.

The Union Coun­ty Cour­t­house shall not be open to the pub­lic with­out the pres­ence of cour­t­house secu­ri­ty pro­vid­ed by the Union Coun­ty Sheriff’s Department.
