Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds recently joined prosecutors from across the country in Washington, DC to urge congressional support for public safety priorities.  Edmonds, a member of the National District Attorney’s Association, joined hundreds of elected prosecutors in meetings with Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill.  Edmonds participated with the Illinois delegation which also included the State’s Attorneys of Hamilton Kane, Kankakee, Lake, LaSalle, Sangamon, St. Clair and Winnebago Counties.  Members of the group met with Senators Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk and Representatives Mike Bost, Bill Foster, Cheri Bustos, Aaron Schock, Adam Kinsinger and Randy Hultgren.  The State’s Attorneys urged continued congressional support for crime victim services, prosecutor training, child advocacy centers and drug treatment programs, particularly regarding the nation’s growing heroin epidemic.

“Many of these programs make a huge impact in Southern Illinois and specifically in Union County,” said State’s Attorney Edmonds.  “Federal support for our services to crime victims and for the Two Rivers Child Advocacy Center in Anna have a huge impact in Union County.  Union County law enforcement has also received tremendous federal support for initiatives aimed at domestic violence and methamphetamine abuse.  I am very grateful for the opportunity to speak with our senators and representatives about the impact their continued support has in improving public safety in Union County.”
